Job 40
1 Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said,
2 Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3 ¶ Then Job answered the Lord, and said,
4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
6 ¶ Then answered the Lord unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
1 Respondens autem Dominus Job de turbine, dixit:
7 Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
2 ¶ Accinge sicut vir lumbos tuos:
interrogabo te, et indica mihi.
interrogabo te, et indica mihi.
8 Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?
3 Numquid irritum facies judicium meum,
et condemnabis me, ut tu justificeris?
et condemnabis me, ut tu justificeris?
9 Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
4 Et si habes brachium sicut Deus?
et si voce simili tonas?
et si voce simili tonas?
10 Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.
5 Circumda tibi decorem, et in sublime erigere,
et esto gloriosus, et speciosis induere vestibus.
et esto gloriosus, et speciosis induere vestibus.
11 Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.
6 Disperge superbos in furore tuo,
et respiciens omnem arrogantem humilia.
et respiciens omnem arrogantem humilia.
12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
7 Respice cunctos superbos, et confunde eos,
et contere impios in loco suo.
et contere impios in loco suo.
13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
8 Absconde eos in pulvere simul,
et facies eorum demerge in foveam.
et facies eorum demerge in foveam.
14 Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.
9 Et ego confitebor
quod salvare te possit dextera tua.
quod salvare te possit dextera tua.
15 ¶ Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
10 Ecce behemoth quem feci tecum,
fœnum quasi bos comedet.
fœnum quasi bos comedet.
16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
11 Fortitudo ejus in lumbis ejus,
et virtus illius in umbilico ventris ejus.

17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
12 Stringit caudam suam quasi cedrum;
nervi testiculorum ejus perplexi sunt.
nervi testiculorum ejus perplexi sunt.
18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
13 Ossa ejus velut fistulæ æris;
cartilago illius quasi laminæ ferreæ.
cartilago illius quasi laminæ ferreæ.
19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
14 Ipse est principium viarum Dei:
qui fecit eum applicabit gladium ejus.

20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
15 Huic montes herbas ferunt:
omnes bestiæ agri ludent ibi.
omnes bestiæ agri ludent ibi.
21 He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
16 Sub umbra dormit in secreto calami,
et in locis humentibus.
et in locis humentibus.
22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
17 Protegunt umbræ umbram ejus:
circumdabunt eum salices torrentis.
circumdabunt eum salices torrentis.
23 Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.
18 Ecce absorbebit fluvium, et non mirabitur,
et habet fiduciam quod influat Jordanis in os ejus.
et habet fiduciam quod influat Jordanis in os ejus.
24 He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.
19 In oculis ejus quasi hamo capiet eum,
et in sudibus perforabit nares ejus.
et in sudibus perforabit nares ejus.
20 An extrahere poteris Leviathan hamo,
et fune ligabis linguam ejus?
et fune ligabis linguam ejus?
21 Numquid pones circulum in naribus ejus,
aut armilla perforabis maxillam ejus?
aut armilla perforabis maxillam ejus?
22 Numquid multiplicabit ad te preces,
aut loquetur tibi mollia?
aut loquetur tibi mollia?
23 Numquid feriet tecum pactum,
et accipies eum servum sempiternum?
et accipies eum servum sempiternum?
24 Numquid illudes ei quasi avi,
aut ligabis eum ancillis tuis?
aut ligabis eum ancillis tuis?
25 Concident eum amici?
divident illum negotiatores?

26 Numquid implebis sagenas pelle ejus,
et gurgustium piscium capite illius?
et gurgustium piscium capite illius?
27 Pone super eum manum tuam:
memento belli, nec ultra addas loqui.

28 Ecce spes ejus frustrabitur eum,
et videntibus cunctis præcipitabitur.
