Psalm 2
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
1 Quare fremuerunt gentes,
et populi meditati sunt inania?
et populi meditati sunt inania?
2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,
2 Astiterunt reges terræ,
et principes convenerunt in unum
adversus Dominum, et adversus christum ejus.
et principes convenerunt in unum
adversus Dominum, et adversus christum ejus.
3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
3 Dirumpamus vincula eorum,
et projiciamus a nobis jugum ipsorum.
et projiciamus a nobis jugum ipsorum.
4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
4 Qui habitat in cælis irridebit eos,
et Dominus subsannabit eos.
et Dominus subsannabit eos.
5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
5 Tunc loquetur ad eos in ira sua,
et in furore suo conturbabit eos.
et in furore suo conturbabit eos.
6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
6 Ego autem constitutus sum rex ab eo
super Sion, montem sanctum ejus,
prædicans præceptum ejus.
super Sion, montem sanctum ejus,
prædicans præceptum ejus.
7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
7 Dominus dixit ad me: Filius meus es tu;
ego hodie genui te.
ego hodie genui te.
8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
8 Postula a me, et dabo tibi gentes hæreditatem tuam,
et possessionem tuam terminos terræ.
et possessionem tuam terminos terræ.
9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
9 Reges eos in virga ferrea,
et tamquam vas figuli confringes eos.
et tamquam vas figuli confringes eos.
10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
10 Et nunc, reges, intelligite;
erudimini, qui judicatis terram.
erudimini, qui judicatis terram.
11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
11 Servite Domino in timore,
et exsultate ei cum tremore.
et exsultate ei cum tremore.
12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
12 Apprehendite disciplinam, nequando irascatur Dominus,
et pereatis de via justa.
et pereatis de via justa.
13 Cum exarserit in brevi ira ejus,
beati omnes qui confidunt in eo.
beati omnes qui confidunt in eo.
