Psalm 71
1 In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
70:1 Psalmus David, filiorum Jonadab, et priorum captivorum. In te, Domine, speravi; non confundar in æternum.
2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.
2 In justitia tua libera me, et eripe me:
inclina ad me aurem tuam, et salva me.
inclina ad me aurem tuam, et salva me.
3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
3 Esto mihi in Deum protectorem,
et in locum munitum, ut salvum me facias:
quoniam firmamentum meum et refugium meum es tu.
et in locum munitum, ut salvum me facias:
quoniam firmamentum meum et refugium meum es tu.
4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
4 Deus meus, eripe me de manu peccatoris,
et de manu contra legem agentis, et iniqui:
et de manu contra legem agentis, et iniqui:
5 For thou art my hope, O Lord God: thou art my trust from my youth.
5 quoniam tu es patientia mea, Domine;
Domine, spes mea a juventute mea.
Domine, spes mea a juventute mea.
6 By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.
6 In te confirmatus sum ex utero;
de ventre matris meæ tu es protector meus;
in te cantatio mea semper.
de ventre matris meæ tu es protector meus;
in te cantatio mea semper.
7 I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge.
7 Tamquam prodigium factus sum multis;
et tu adjutor fortis.
et tu adjutor fortis.
8 Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.
8 Repleatur os meum laude,
ut cantem gloriam tuam,
tota die magnitudinem tuam.
ut cantem gloriam tuam,
tota die magnitudinem tuam.
9 Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.
9 Ne projicias me in tempore senectutis;
cum defecerit virtus mea, ne derelinquas me.
cum defecerit virtus mea, ne derelinquas me.
10 For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,
10 Quia dixerunt inimici mei mihi,
et qui custodiebant animam meam consilium fecerunt in unum,
et qui custodiebant animam meam consilium fecerunt in unum,
11 Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.
11 dicentes: Deus dereliquit eum:
persequimini et comprehendite eum,
quia non est qui eripiat.
persequimini et comprehendite eum,
quia non est qui eripiat.
12 O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help.
12 Deus, ne elongeris a me;
Deus meus, in auxilium meum respice.
Deus meus, in auxilium meum respice.
13 Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt.
13 Confundantur et deficiant detrahentes animæ meæ;
operiantur confusione et pudore qui quærunt mala mihi.
operiantur confusione et pudore qui quærunt mala mihi.
14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.
14 Ego autem semper sperabo,
et adjiciam super omnem laudem tuam.
et adjiciam super omnem laudem tuam.
15 My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.
15 Os meum annuntiabit justitiam tuam,
tota die salutare tuum.
Quoniam non cognovi litteraturam,
tota die salutare tuum.
Quoniam non cognovi litteraturam,
16 I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.
16 introibo in potentias Domini;
Domine, memorabor justitiæ tuæ solius.
Domine, memorabor justitiæ tuæ solius.
17 O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.
17 Deus, docuisti me a juventute mea;
et usque nunc pronuntiabo mirabilia tua.
et usque nunc pronuntiabo mirabilia tua.
18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
18 Et usque in senectam et senium,
Deus, ne derelinquas me,
donec annuntiem brachium tuum generationi omni quæ ventura est,
potentiam tuam,
Deus, ne derelinquas me,
donec annuntiem brachium tuum generationi omni quæ ventura est,
potentiam tuam,
19 Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
19 et justitiam tuam, Deus, usque in altissima;
quæ fecisti magnalia, Deus: quis similis tibi?
quæ fecisti magnalia, Deus: quis similis tibi?
20 Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
20 Quantas ostendisti mihi tribulationes multas et malas!
et conversus vivificasti me,
et de abyssis terræ iterum reduxisti me.
et conversus vivificasti me,
et de abyssis terræ iterum reduxisti me.
21 Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.
21 Multiplicasti magnificentiam tuam;
et conversus consolatus es me.
et conversus consolatus es me.
22 I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.
22 Nam et ego confitebor tibi in vasis psalmi veritatem tuam, Deus;
psallam tibi in cithara, sanctus Israël.
psallam tibi in cithara, sanctus Israël.
23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
23 Exsultabunt labia mea cum cantavero tibi;
et anima mea quam redemisti.
et anima mea quam redemisti.
24 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.
24 Sed et lingua mea tota die meditabitur justitiam tuam,
cum confusi et reveriti fuerint qui quærunt mala mihi.
cum confusi et reveriti fuerint qui quærunt mala mihi.
